Welcome to the Dunk Base!

The Dunk Base was created as the base of operations for writers with an insatiable desire to talk about all things NBA. We are committed to bringing you a daily blog on the topic of the moment. So sit back, relax and try not to get dunked on.

Here is the Dunk Base team:

Blogger Name: Jason Rubin
Favourite Team: Chicago Bulls
Favourite Player: Derrick Rose
Motto on life: A fool says what he knows, and a wise man knows what he says.
Best NBA moment: I was in attendance for Game 1 of the 1997 NBA Finals. I'll never forget Karl Malone missing those two free throws and witnessing Michael Jordan's miraculous, game-winning shot. That was definitely my best NBA moment.
Worst NBA moment: Watching the Bulls' first regular season game for the 1998-1999 NBA season. It was then that I truly realized that at that time there were so few familiar faces left on Chicago's roster. And that realisation left me with a heavy heart.

Hi everyone. My name is Jason Rubin. I’m a long-time NBA fan with a tremendous love for the game. Born on the south side of Chicago but raised in Naperville, IL, I grew up idolizing the Chicago Bulls. Even though I currently reside just outside of Miami, my pride for the Bulls is as strong as ever. I have a passion for discussing the NBA and that is exactly why I decided to create the Dunk Base. We have such a wonderful writing staff and a great webmaster. I look forward to all of the future discussions I will have with our viewers.

Blogger Name: Gavin MacPherson
Favourite Team: New York Knicks
Favourite Player: Renaldo Balkman
Motto on life: Talk - Action = 0
Best NBA moment: Marcus Camby accidentally punching Jeff Van Gundy
Worst NBA moment: The Knicks losing in Game 7 in 1994
My name is Gavin, I'm a Canadian who is currently living in between Buffalo, NY and Toronto, ON. I've been following basketball for almost 20 years now and have been directly involved in it as both a player and a coach but never beyond the high school level. I'm a real student of the game, devoting a fair amount of my free time to reading about the history of the game and reading about strategies and statistical analysis. I used to dabble in a little bit of writing for a couple of basketball websites and blogs but that was a few years ago and my writing skills have become a little rusty. Hopefully my comeback can be more like Michael Jordan's first comeback and less like Michael Jordan's second comeback.
Blogger Name:
Allen Miettinen
Favourite Team:
Denver Nuggets
Favourite Player:
Dwayne Wade
Motto on life:
If everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane
Best NBA moment:
Heat trailing by 13 with about 6 minutes left in the 4th in Game 3 of the Finals and coming back to win the game, avoiding an insurmountable 3-0 deficit.
Worst NBA moment:
RobertHorry's buzzer beater in Game 4 of the WCF against the Kings

Hey, what's up everyone. Allen Miettinen's the name. I'm 20 years old and working on a degree in psychology and marketing. I grew up in California and kindled my love for basketball during the 2000 playoffs. The Lakers' comeback vs. the Blazers in Game 7 of the WCF really opened my eyes to what an unpredictable and exciting league the NBA was. I was enamored by Kobe Bryant. Then I discovered Allen Iverson, his tiny rebel misfit image clicked with me immediately. Then I came to the realization that basketball is a team game and tried to be loyal to my home team, the Golden State Warriors. Vonteego Cummings, Adam Keefe, Adonal Foyle.. those were the days. Fortunately Mookie Blaylock and Antawn Jamison made it tolerable. Anyway, I then moved to Colorado where I had to suffer some more terrible basketball for a while. But without that, there'd be no Carmelo Anthony and the promising team the Nuggets have now so it all evens out. I'm one of the OG posters from hoopshype. As dumb as it sounds, I think hoopshype has helped me hone my writing skills. I look forward to the challenge of enligtening and entertaining the basketball masses with my sometimes blunt and critical/sometimes jovial/sometimes both analysis on this site.

Blogger Name: Matt Brown
Favourite Team: Chicago Bulls
Favourite Player: Derrick Rose
Motto on life: If you let everything get you down, you're only going to be eaten alive
Best NBA moment: I can think of 6, but I'll go with Jordan hitting the game winning shot in the 1998 finals for the 6th one.
Worst NBA moment: The first 6 years of the Bulls rebuilding process

I'm 26 years old and currently reside in Naperville, IL. I have a bachelors degree in marketing and a minor in philosophy. Fan of all of the 4 main team sports. baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. I'm a huge music enthuiast as well. I'm a fan of just about every genre in music, but I do tend to be a little bit of a music snob at times as well. I'm also very interested in a lot of different genres of movies. Comedy has to be my favorite, but I love old horror and slasher movies. Some of my favorite TV shows include The Office, Community, East Bound and Down, and Ghost Hunters.

Blogger Name: Steve Bradley
Favourite Team: Washington Bullets / Wizards
Favourite Player: Gus Johnson
Motto on life: Anything that can go wrong, will
Best NBA moment: The easy answer here would be Arenas' game winner and subsequent series win against the Bulls in '05. The series being the first seven game series DC had won in my lifetime, but truth be told that was rather bittersweet as there was no chance at the time of the Wizards advancing further in the playoffs. So, in reality I'm still waiting for that quintessential "Defining NBA Moment" so long as we're talking about "our" team successes. Otherwise, my NBA experience is made up of a number good moments on a regular basis.
Worst NBA moment: Being a Washington DC fan.

Hi, Steve Bradley here. I grew up just outside of Washington DC and it is also where I currently reside. I've been a fan of basketball in a general since about as long as I can remember and played up until High School. I would probably be described as a basketball junkie as I watch and follow high school, college, and international (both leagues and FIBA competitions) forms of basketball as well as the NBA. I get easily bored with the normal line of thinking when it comes to basketball (who's better than who and the like) and because of that I try to think abstractly about basketball in an attempt probe a little further into why certain things are happening in the basketball world. I also get tired of well worn cliches and traditional lines of thinking that I feel are just used as easy ways out instead of in depth analysis. I'm also a strong historian when it comes to basketball (and not just the NBA) and I'm constantly trying to expand on that information base. My ultimate goal here is to hopefully get people to think more critically about the game, the league, and the personalities that populate it both in the present and the past.

Blogger Name: Carson Selby
Favourite Team: Toronto Raptors
Favourite Player: Dwyane Wade
Motto on life:
If life gives you lemons, you suck it up and eat them.
Best NBA moment: When the Toronto Raptors made the playoffs in 2000-01 and defeated the New York Knicks in the first round. This was when I really started getting into basketball, and learning what the game was all about.
Worst NBA moment: The 2nd round of these aferomentioned playoffs. The Raptors are down by 1, and they inbound the ball to superstar Vince Carter, who turns and fires a long 2 pointer...and it clanks off the rim. The 76ers run all over the court celebrating there birth in the Conference Finals, and I was crushed. The Raptors haven't made it that far since.
What's up guys. My name is Carson Selby and I am 19 years old. I live in Toronto, Ontario, and I have been a basketball fan for about 10 years. I have been a diehard Toronto Raptors fan my whole life, and believe me, it has been a struggle..but hopefully, things will be looking up this year. Anyway, I've been a long time poster on basketball forums, but this is my first time getting into blogging. I have a passion for the sport of basketball (and a slightly off-kilter sense of humour), and I want to share it with all the basketball fans out there.
